Description:

Ancient Near East, Asia Minor/Anatolia, ca. 2nd or early 1st millennium BCE. A miniature rock crystal bull, carved with a thick body and projecting head. The stone has a pale, buttery color. The underside has been drilled repeatedly with shallow circles, perhaps meant to be deterrents against the Evil Eye. The people of the ancient Near East believed strongly in magic, and the magical powers of amulets. The oldest of these amulets are stone animal forms like this one. The bull was a symbol of fertility and virility. Size: 1.5" W x 0.95" H (3.8 cm x 2.4 cm)
