Description:

Ancient Near East, Anatolia, Chalcolithic Period, Middle Bronze Age / Bronze Age II, ca. 4000 to 1550 BCE. A spherical mace head hand-carved from alabaster with a central socketing hole to mount on a wooden handle. The natural white veining encircles the head, making this a very striking example of ancient stone weaponry. Due to the quality and beauty of the material- it is likely this was a ceremonial piece rather than for warfare or protection, and when backlit the stone illuminates with a warm glow. Size: 2.25" Diameter (5.7 cm); 4.75" H (12.1 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-private prominent Daryl Kulok collection, New York, USA, acquired in the 2000s
