Native American, Southwest United States, Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi), ca. 1075 to 1250 CE. A lovely, hand-built pottery ladle presenting a thick, tubular handle with a pinched tip and a large scooping bowl. Slipped with a light gray surface, the fine implement is hand-painted with black decoration with one half bearing vertical stripes and the other half with horizontal stripes. Size: 10.2" L x 4.8" W x 2.1" H (25.9 cm x 12.2 cm x 5.3 cm)

  • Condition: Repair and restoration to handle near neck and base of scoop, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Chips to scoop rim, with light fading to pigment, and some areas of fire darkening on handle. Nice preservation to linear motifs within scoop.
