Description:

Native American, Central Arizona, Walnut Canyon region, Anasazi, ca. 1100 to 1275 CE. A hand-built terracotta ladle with an elongated handle and a round, deep cup at one end. Black-on-white geometric motifs create a repeated step-like pattern round the interior of the bowl and a rectangular pattern on the handle. This is a particularly fine example, probably made solely for burial or ritual caching, as it shows no signs of having been burned from use, although many ladles like this one do. Size: 4" W x 9.4" H (10.2 cm x 23.9 cm)

Provenance: Private Boulder collection, acquired Santa Fe NM 2018
