Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), ca. 1200 to 1350 CE. A beautiful hand-built pottery bowl with black on white pigment and an intricate design on the interior walls. The bowl rests on a rounded base and the tall walls rise to a wide mouth. Below the rim are diagonal lines in black that form a checkerboard pattern on the white ground. Pottery such as this piece was created by coiling clay, smoothing the edges, then painting and firing. Pottery played an important role in Anasazi cultural practices as both utilitarian storage vessels and pieces of fine artistry, as well as items to trade with other communities. This bowl is a fabulous example from this ancient culture! Size: 7.5" L x 9" W x 4.75" H (19 cm x 22.9 cm x 12.1 cm)
