Description:

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Amlash, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A standing steatopygous idol presenting a form that emphasizes her fertility with exaggerated broad hips and buttocks, perky breasts, and protruding navel. Her limbs are minimized so as to not detract from and thereby further emphasize her locii of fertility; note her dramatically tapering legs and diminutive nubbin arms. In addition, her long slightly tapering neck with a globular head, pierced ears for earrings (now missing), and high hair ornament are characteristic of steatopygous idols. Size: 2.5" W x 5.9" H (6.4 cm x 15 cm); 7.75" H (19.7 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Restoration to left arm and chip to left ear lobe. Minor abrasions and chips, with light earthen deposits, and a couple of small spalls, otherwise in excellent condition. Great preservation to figural form.
