Ancient Near East / Central Asia, northwestern Iran, Amlash culture, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A hand-built pottery vessel with a body composed of an abstract horse standing atop four outstretched legs. The equine creature presents with a stocky body that has a flared vessel projecting from the middle of its back, and minimalist avian creatures rest atop the shoulders. Faint remains of red-orange pigment suggest that this piece was at one time embellished with vibrant layers of pigment. Size: 5.125" L x 2.8" W x 6.375" H (13 cm x 7.1 cm x 16.2 cm)
