Near East, Iran, Amlash culture, ca. 1800 BCE. This is a greyware spouted vessel with a small nub in the back to aid in holding it whilst pouring. It stands on a small base and the coiled clay marks are still clearly visible on the inside of the bowl. The so-called Amlash culture refers to an assortment of artifacts that seem to form a continuous tradition from the Iron Age to the first millennium CE. Black/greyware pottery is from the older part of the period and was often found in tombs. Size: 3-1/2" in diameter x 6" x 4-1/2". Provenance: Ex-private Gurley collection, Pasadena, CA.
