Description:

Ancient Near East, northern Iran, Amlash, ca. 9th to 8th century BCE. A cast-copper vessel with an intriguing shape and prominent spout; it rests on a flattened base and rises to a globular body with a ridge encircling the neck and wide mouth. A petal-shape tab lies in relief along the body, and on the opposite side a long channel-spout rises up from a relief ribbed dome with knobs on the front side of the bowl. A small perforation on the interior cavity of the bowl allows liquid to pass from the bowl into the front relief area and then into the spout. A very interesting form with intricate details for a seemingly simple form. Vessels like this were likely used to pour ritual libations during religious ceremonies, perhaps during funerary rituals as many have been found in burial sites. Size: 6.875" W x 2.75" H (17.5 cm x 7 cm)
