Oceania, South Pacific, Polynesia, American Samoa, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A wooden paddle club carved with flags, the United States eagle emblem, and etched "AMERICAN SAMOA," the recessed lines colored with white kaolin pigment. A braided sennit fiber cord is wrapped around the handle. This may have been a memento for an American soldier stationed on the island. Size: 18.3" L x 6" W (46.5 cm x 15.2 cm)
