Description:

North America, United States, 20th century. Signed and dated "Sprinkle 1986" in black on verso. A whimsical example of American folk art depicting a colorful fish carrying an American flag, all hand painted on cut sheet metal (iron). The fish 'swims' toward the right and bears pointy teeth. Its scales are rendered in ruby red and white against an aqua blue ground. The flag presents with the familiar stars and stripes; however, as is the case with most folk and outsider artists, artistic liberties were taken as there are only four stars rather than the usual fifty. A charming example of American folk art, perfect for any ichthyophile, especially a patriotic one! Size: 14.375" L x 23.5" W (36.5 cm x 59.7 cm)
