Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. Impressive for its generous size and superb condition, a beautiful Roman glass vessel with gorgeous green and shimmering golden hues from the internal iridescence. The flask presents an elegantly curved spherical body with a dimpled base with what appears to be a smoothed pontil mark, a tubular neck slightly pinched at its juncture with the vessel body, and a skillfully collared rim. An incredible example from ancient Rome! Size: 6" in diameter x 8" H (15.2 cm x 20.3 cm)

Provenance: private Dere collection, East Coast, USA assembled between 1970 and 2000

#157237

  • Condition: Intact and choice, stunning silvery iridescence primarily present in interior (actually a great thing as it lessens any iridescent flaking). A gorgeous vessel in a very desirable color!
