Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A charming hand-carved soapstone statue of a pair of whales upon a slab of contrasting hued stone. The underside is signed "Isaac Nylin Nome, Alaska" and has a label for the Glacier Lodge which sells Inuit art. Records show that Nylin was born in 1933 and died in 2005. Size: 6.75" L x 2.75" W x 2.2" H (17.1 cm x 7 cm x 5.6 cm)
