Andrei Vasseka (Alaskan-Russian, 1964- present), "Walrus" ca. 20th to 21st century CE. A charming walrus carving made from highly polished whale bone, the underside is signed by the artist. Andrei Vasseka was born in Russia (USSR) in 1964, and studied carving at Magadan - a port town in the far east of Russia - a region with a subarctic climate and a tradition of bone, ivory, and stone carving amongst Siberian Indigenous people. In 1993 Vasseka moved to Alaska and continues to work in stone, bone, and painting and selling his work in galleries. Size: 6" L x 2.75" W x 2.75" H (15.2 cm x 7 cm x 7 cm)
