Description:

North America, Southern United States, Central Florida, Withlacoochee River, Oligocene, ca. 38 million years ago. Immerse yourself in the enchanting beauty of this agatized coral fossil geode, a surreal masterpiece of nature! Split open to reveal its mesmerizing botryoidal crystals, this specimen exudes a dreamy allure with semi-translucent formations of chalcedony with a textured surface - the crystals a like a dusting of sugary powder! Over millions of years silica minerals replaced the coral, creating the agate crystalization, which makes this example truly special and remaniscent of a magical cave! While most specimens are solid or unremarkable when sliced, this particular piece defies expectations. Its rounded, translucent lobes create a visual spectacle that is rarely encountered in agatized coral! Size: 7" L x 4.25" W x 4" H (17.8 cm x 10.8 cm x 10.2 cm)

Agatized coral is highly prized not only by fossil collectors but by gem and mineral collectors as well. The majority of agatized coral is either solid inside when sliced or it possesses a relatively unremarkable internal cavity. Agatized coral of this quality is so rare that usually it is cut up and used in very expensive custom jewelry pieces. As a complete crystal specimen this is probably worth even more in its natural state.
