Tribal / Ethnographic, Africa, Nigeria, Anang Ibibio, ca. mid 20th century CE. A skillfully hand-carved and painted horned face mask with a superstructure comprised of an antelope standing on all fours and looking behind. The expressive red visage of the mask features openwork eyes for the wearer, arched brows, a protruding nose, a slightly open toothy grin, scarification marks on the cheeks, forehead, and near the ears, an incised stylized coiffure, and a pair of curved horns - all in black and white hues on a red ground. Size: 7.75" W x 23.5" H (19.7 cm x 59.7 cm)
