West Africa, Yoruba culture, Ibeji, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A very fine carved wooden ceremonial staff depicting two heads, possibly male and female, with matching features such as triangular eyes, broad noses, large lips, and facial scarification lines along with two large and shared horns. The staff portion of the scepter has several bands of intricately carved horizontal and jagged line details, and features a carved loop at the bottom. Custom museum-quality stand included. Size: 2" L x 3" W x 13" H (5.1 cm x 7.6 cm x 33 cm); 14.5" H (36.8 cm) on stand.
