Africa, Niger River Delta, ca. early 20th century CE. A secular festival mask carved from wood depicting a peaceful face with openwork eyes for the wearer, naturalistic features including an upturned nose, full closed lips, and small ears, all painted with rich brown natural pigment and topped by and integral pointed crown that is elegantly adorned with a center carved zigzag motif and red natural pigment. A lovely example. Size: 6.25" W x 8.75" H (15.9 cm x 22.2 cm)
