Africa, Nigeria, possibly Igbo, ca. early 20th century CE. A hand carved wooden face mask of an ovoid form with remarkably naturalistic contours, eye slits, arched brows, a petite upturned nose, and puckered yet slightly parted lips. Remains of purplish pigment around eyes and brows, red pigment on the lips, and white on the remainder. Perforations around perimeter for attaching costume and/or ornament. Size: 4.75" W x 8.75" H (12.1 cm x 22.2 cm)
