West Africa, Mali, Dogon people, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A low prestige stool hand carved from a single piece of wood with a rounded top supported by 7 figures carved atop a base. These stools may have been strictly for commemorative and symbolic and not for sitting upon, the upper and lower base disc shapes represent the Dogon cosmology believe of the parallel realms of the heavens and earth. Size: 11.75" W x 16" H (29.8 cm x 40.6 cm)
