Description:

Tribal / Ethnographic, Africa, Sudan, Dinka, ca. early 20th century CE. A hand-carved, wooden, head rest with animal heads on long necks emerging from each end of the curved neck rest and three multi-faceted supporting legs with a zigzag pattern delineated between two of the legs. Such neck rests were used so that hairstyles would not be disturbed during sleep; they also served as indicators of status as well as a place to sit for elderly men. Size: 18" L x 9.625" H (45.7 cm x 24.4 cm)
