Western/Central Africa, Cameroon, Grasslands region, Bamileke peoples, ca. mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden face mask of sizable, wearable form depicting an intriguing anthropomorphic countenance with bulging eyes and a grinning, toothy mouth. Each pierced ear is adorned with a beaded earring, and remains of white and red pigment are visible in scattered areas across the protruding vizard. Size: 9" L x 10.5" W x 15.5" H (22.9 cm x 26.7 cm x 39.4 cm); 21.6" H (54.9 cm) on included custom stand.
