Description:

Africa, Mali or Guinea, Bamana, ca. late 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden Malinki marriage mask covered in ornate brass plates. The ovoid visage exhibits circular eyes adorned in serrated discs, a bar-shaped nose above a petite mouth, overhanging brows, and pierced ears adorned with iron rings. Projecting up from the brow is a series of 6 rod-shaped hair cords wrapped with additional brass ringlets to create a feminine presentation. Size: 4.125" L x 6.6" W x 21.75" H (10.5 cm x 16.8 cm x 55.2 cm); 28.3" H (71.9 cm) on included custom stand.
