Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Central Asia, Afghanistan, Balochistan, ca. late 20th century CE. A striking hand-woven Baluch "Persian" carpet woven in bold hues with animals in a geometric floral ground- two deer and an eagle attacking an animal. The historical home of the Balochi people, Balochistan, straddles southern Afghanistan, southwestern Pakistan, and southeastern Iran. Baluch weavings are made from a cotton and/or wool foundation warp with wool of sheep, goats, and sometimes camel hair. Due to the traditionally nomadic lifestyle of these tribes, the weavings are usually a maximum of 8 feet (2.5 meters). This carpet departs from the traditional and darker colors that are characteristic in Baluchi textiles and uses a very vibrant pink that is a clear indication of outside influences. Size: 55" L x 35" W (139.7 cm x 88.9 cm)
