Description:

**Originally Listed At $800**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A charming mold-made ceramic figure of a child with a lifelike, chubby face. The figure depicts the torso, arms, and head of the child, who has his or her arms raised up to clutch a basket. Rounded fruit rests inside the basket. The child's face is delightful, with chubby cheeks, a broad nose, large eyes, and a small smile. A hood is over the head, but the hair is visible as a fringe resting on the forehead. This figure would have been brightly painted when first made, and probably used as a votive offering, probably when praying for a good harvest. Size: 5.2" W x 7.25" H (13.2 cm x 18.4 cm)
