Description:

Roman, Imperial period, 1st to 4th century CE. Sensitive and life-like portrayal in marble of a child's head, with a sweet, heavy-lidded face and small mouth. She wears a flower crown, with the flowers distinctively carved (they look like daisies) above slightly curly hair; a piece of cloth hangs from the crown of her head. This may be a palla, a shawl sometimes worn over the head, or a veil made of thin material for hot weather. A fine example of Roman marble statuary. Size: 4" L x 3.5" W x 4.3" H (10.2 cm x 8.9 cm x 10.9 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Peter Arnovick collection, San Francisco, CA
