Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. A precious figural pottery group depicting a mother carrying her infant or toddler on her back. The woman is dressed in a lovely long skirt with incised detailing and wears a necklace and earrings. Mother and child wear matching turban-like headdresses. The pose that the sculptor captured is most endearing; note how the child's legs wrap around his/her momma's waist, how his/her head attempts to peek over the mother's shoulders. A closer look also reveals the mom's protruding perhaps pregnant belly. A wonderful sculptural piece that offers a sweet glimpse at the warm interactions between mothers and their children. Fabulous root marks and manganese! Size: 6.75" H (17.1 cm)
