Pre-Columbian, Central Mexico, Chupícuaro culture, ca. 500 to 300 BCE. In the shape of a stylized bird with the upturned, opened beak serving as the spout. Small wings and a tail have been added with hatching. The bird is covered in grey-black paint. The Chupícuaro were influential ceramic producers in the region, which encompasses the modern day Mexican states Jalisco, Nayarit, Colima, Guerrero, Michoacán, and Guanajuato. Unfortunately, the main archaeological site at Guanajuato was flooded in 1949 during the construction of the Solis dam, so little is known about this culture. Size: 5-1/2”L x 5-1/2"W x 6-1/4”H.
