Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Chorrera, ca. 1000 to 800 BCE. An adorable red on buff terracotta whistling vessel from a culture that existed at the same time - and probably traded with - the more famous Chavin culture of Peru. Atop the piriform body is a delightful seated monkey displaying a playful attitude with a toothy grin, hands placed on his feet, tail swept up to the back of his head. In the Pre-Columbian world, the monkey was associated with playfulness, foolery, and even debauchery. Size: 4.125" W x 6.125" H (10.5 cm x 15.6 cm) not including stand
