Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Near East, probably Assyria, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A hand-carved grey-green stone amulet of a dog with pointed, upright ears and a curled tail. The dog was a companion animal in the ancient Near East, also used for hunting. Miniature animal amulets like this one from the Assyrian period recall the stone amulets made by earlier Mesopotamian civilizations, notably the Sumerians. Size: 0.8" L (2 cm)
