Southeast Asia, Thailand or Cambodia, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden coconut grater hand-carved in the form of a recumbent rabbit. The bunny rests atop a quartet of retracted legs and has a slender body, a pair of long laid back ears atop the shoulders, and a perky, upturned tail. The raised head boasts a pair of inlaid creamy white resin eyes with jet-black pupils, and a serrated metal grating tool is fitted to the mouth. Size: 20.5" L x 5.25" W x 5.875" H (52.1 cm x 13.3 cm x 14.9 cm)

  • Condition: Old repairs to underside of neck/chest/front right paw. Age cracks as shown, but the form is stable. Minor surface wear/abrasions to rabbit's body and head. Nice warm russet patina to grating tool. Slight yellowing to inlaid resin eyes, and light encrustations within some recessed areas. Fine patina throughout.
