Description:

West to Central Asia, Islamic/Persian, Seljuk culture, ca. 12th century CE. A near miniature cast bronze lock in the form of a zoomorph - perhaps of the canine persuasion - with its extremely long body standing with strong posture connoting pride upon all four diminutive legs - and looking upward with its endearing face presenting perky ears, incised wide-open eyes, and a pronounced snout. Adding to its appeal, its coat is embellished with incised lines below the collar. The Seljuks had impressive locking technology, including combination lock boxes capable of over four million combinations; imagine what kinds of things they intended to lock away with a key lock such as this one! An outstanding example of Seljuk metalwork with gorgeous rich patina. Size: 1.625" L x 1.375" H (4.1 cm x 3.5 cm); 2.125" H (5.4 cm) on included custom stand.
