Eva Histia (Acoma Pueblo, 1914-2005). Pair of pottery lamps, n.d. Each signed "E. Histia Acoma New Mex,"on underside. A delightful and functional pair of pottery lamps handmade and painted by Acoma artist Eva Histia. Each in the form of an olla, the lamps are painted with traditional designs of birds and flowers surrounded by geometric motifs, all in black and orange on a creamy beige ground and flanked by a pair of twisted handles. Each fitted with a custom cloth lamp shade and ready for use! Size without shade (both the same): 11.25" W x 13.25" H (28.6 cm x 33.7 cm); with shade (both the same): 18" W x 25" H (45.7 cm x 63.5 cm)

Eva Histia (1914-2005) was a member of the Roadrunner Clan at Acoma Pueblo. She was the daughter of Helice Vallo and mother of Hilda Antonio, Rose Torivio, and Ida Ortiz. She was the grandmother of Mary J. Garcia and Lavine Torivio. Eva was an active potter as early as 1922 and continued until around 1990.

  • Condition: Each signed "E. Histia Acoma New Mex," on underside. Both lamps are still functional. A few marks to surfaces, but otherwise both are intact and excellent with good remaining pigments and detail. Each fit with custom cloth lampshade; slight wear and patina to shades that does not affect lamps.
