Ancient Near East, Achaemenid Persian Empire, ca. 550 to 330 BCE. A beautiful 97.21% gold pendant with avian iconography, perhaps a depiction of "Shahbaz," the royal falcon that appeared on the royal flag of the Achaemenid Persian Empire, delineated in repousse. The profiled avian creature appears to have outstretched wings and a feathered tail. A lovely 'beaded' border surrounds the pendant which is suspended from a modern cord to be wearable! Gold quality: 97.21%, equivalent to 23K+. Weight: .6 grams. Size: .75" L x 1.625" W (1.9 cm x 4.1 cm); cord is 20" L (50.8 cm)
