Description:

Ancient Near East, Achaemenid Persian Empire, ca. 550 to 330 BCE. A gilded, cast bronze attachment in the form of an axe-shaped flat panel. Around the edge is a repeated, tightly clustered teardrop motif that gives the piece a low relief border. The maker has drilled multiple perforations at regular intervals around the border so that the piece could be sewn onto clothing. Cast abstract motifs on the surface look like flames and possibly amphorae. Imagine this piece shining brightly on someone's clothing, demonstrating their wealth and social status. Comes mounted on custom stand. Size: 3.55" W x 6" H (9 cm x 15.2 cm); height on stand: 8.35" (21.2 cm).
