Description:

Found in Cologne, Germany, dating to the 1st -2nd Century CE. Squat globular body of bluish-green glass; with cylindrical neck, two dolphin handles applied on the shoulder, drawn up and down, attached to neck. Flat base, no pontil. Rim, folded outward, backward, inward and flattened. The Aryballos was an ancient container used for storing oil. Vessels such as this were worn by Ancient Roman athletes and used in cleansing of the skin. 2-1/2"H x 2-1/2"D.
