Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 9th to 11th century CE. A beautiful pendant formed from a silver votive axe head that has been suspension from the band of a twisted silver wire ring. The terminals of the ring wrap around the shank to create stability, and the axe head resembles a petite skeggox, or "bearded axe." Size (full pendant): 1.75" H (4.4 cm); (ring): 0.23" L x 1.08" W x 1.02" H (0.6 cm x 2.7 cm x 2.6 cm); (axe head): 0.93" L x 0.19" W x 0.63" H (2.4 cm x 0.5 cm x 1.6 cm); silver quality: 93%; total weight: 5.3 grams

  • Condition: Both ring and pendant have been professionally cleaned in modern times. Damage to some thin wire wraps on ring loop, with light abrasions to axe head pendant, otherwise in excellent condition. Great luster throughout, and lovely presentation!
