Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 800 to 1100 CE. A hefty forged-iron axe head of utilitarian form featuring a rectangular blade head with a sharpened edge, a thick neck, and a wide socketing shaft into which a wooden pole was likely inserted.
