Northern Europe, Viking / Norse culture, ca. 9th to 11th century CE. A lovely leaded brass bracelet of torque form presenting a raised lateral crest and a pair of zoomorphic finials, each with a tubular, striped snout and perky, petaloid ears. Incised dashes and zigzagged striations adorn the exterior of the band, running parallel to the peaked crest. A pretty, wearable piece of ancient history, enveloped in a verdant green patina reminiscent of the Viking era! Size of exterior: 2.8" L x 2.4" W (7.1 cm x 6.1 cm); of interior: 2.3" L x 2" W (5.8 cm x 5.1 cm); width of band: 0.5" W (1.3 cm); 3" H (7.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Lindenhurst, Illinois, USA collection, acquired from Artemission, London, England on January 30, 2014; ex-private European collection
