Description:

Ancient Near East, Iran, Tepe Siaulk (also Tepe Sialk) culture, ca. 9th to late 8th century BCE. A hand-built pottery vessel exhibiting an inverted piriform body atop a flat base. The vessel presents with a carinated shoulder that houses a squat rim as well as a quartet of vertical containers that perhaps held candles or other similar items. Protruding from the front is a narrow 'beaked' spout surmounted by the head of an abstract zoomorph with a 'tail' on the opposite side that doubles as a minimalist handle. Remains of red-orange and brown pigment are visible across the vessel and suggest it was ornately painted at one time. Size: 9.25" W x 8.375" H (23.5 cm x 21.3 cm)
