Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 8th to 10th century CE. A forged-iron axe head of a minimalist design with a vertical blade edge, a stocky neck, and a thick butt end behind a cylindrical socketing shaft. This axe head was perhaps used for utilitarian purposes like chopping wood or shaping mud bricks rather than for warfare. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only.
