Description:

Medieval Middle East, Turkey / Persia, Seljuk (sometimes Seljuq) Empire, ca. 8th to 10th century CE. An intriguing hollow-built terracotta figure of an abstract feline with a tapering neck, a globular head, and perky conical ears, all covered in cream-hued slip. Intricate curvilinear, stippled, spiraled adornments are applied across the base and head, and an applied necklace of enclosed beads encircles the neck. The hollow nature of this piece indicates it was from a larger figure or was perhaps created as a finial attachment for a pole. Size: 2.75" W x 3.8" H (7 cm x 9.7 cm).
