**Originally Listed At $400**

Near East, Egypt to Syria, Islamic culture, ca. 8th to 13th century CE. A lovely earthenware canteen with a circular form and a flared spout rising from the center. Both faces of the slightly convex and discoidal sides are adorned in a molded geometrical and foliate motif - petaloid forms radiating around interlacing lines and a 7-petal flower in low relief. This type of vessel is often called a pilgrim flask or canteen, used to store water by travelers or hunters, the tapered spout prevented spillage and the light color helped keep the contents cool.
