Description:

Western Europe, Late Roman & Byzantine to Medieval period, ca. 3rd to 12th century CE. This collection features a variety of 8 objects made from copper alloy, tin-bronze, bronze, and leaded-pewter. Included are two tongue-shaped belt mounts, intricately chip-carved with vine-scroll designs, with the verso still retaining the attachment rivets for securing them to a leather strap. Additionally, there is a large ring with an ovoid bezel designed for a separate stone, three annular pins, a leaded pewter token or relief seal depicting a rooster, and a ribbed fitting or ornament. Size of belt fitting: 2.2" L x 0.75" W (5.6 cm x 1.9 cm)

Provenance: private South Sutton, New Hampshire, USA collection, acquired in the early 1960s
