Description:

Ancient Near East, early Islamic period, ca. 7th to 8th century CE. A beautiful hand-blown glass unguentarium meant to hold perfumes or other scented oils. The vessel has a concave footed base with a rough pontil, a squat body which tapers to a narrow neck base, a conical spout, and a rolled rim. Thick, fiery areas of golden iridescence accentuate the pale-yellow hue of the vessel itself, imbuing it with the opulent radiance so often associated with powerful Islamic dynasties. Size: 2.875" H (7.3 cm).
