Description:

Early Islamic, ca. 7th to 10th century CE, after an earlier variant in the Roman Empire which was done from 1st to 4th century CE. A beautiful ribbed glass bowl with 19 vertical ribs adorning the exterior walls, a concave base, and a pronounced/delineated rim. The vessel was mold made from translucent glass of stunning forest green hues - where the artisan sagged the glass over an existing mold and used tools to create the ribs. While the rim is wheel polished, both the exterior and interior were fire polished giving this piece a glossy, almost liquid appearance. Breathtakingly beautful! Size: 5.625" in diameter x 1.875" H (14.3 cm x 4.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-Stephen Shalom, collection, New York City, New York, USA, 1970s, purchased in Israel
