Description:

First time at auction…

Near East, Islamic culture, ca. 7th to 11th century CE. A charming bronze dish featuring the minimalist figure of a long-necked bird, perhaps a goose, seated at the center. Propped up on a raised boss, the avian animal faces forward with wings tucked, perhaps positioned as to appear afloat when the dish is filled with liquid. A lovely example of figurative utilitarian art from Medieval Islamic culture! Size: 4.4" Diameter x 2.5" H (11.2 cm x 6.4 cm)

Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
