Description:

Northern Europe, Anglo-Saxon or possibly other Germanic culture, ca. 7th to 9th century CE. A lovely and complete set of forged-iron pliers used for a myriad of tasks in the blacksmithing process. The tool is comprised of two slender handles which terminate at a point, a pair of curved grasping prongs, and a small central pivoting joint. The joint and both grasping prongs have been fused together from oxidation and time, rendering the pliers inoperable. Blacksmiths were an integral component of early Anglo-Saxon life as they forged the tools necessary to build, expand, and thrive. Covered in thick layers of oxidized iron comprising a wonderful patina, this is a fabulous example from early northern Europe! Size: 15.75" L x 1.875" W (40 cm x 4.8 cm).
