Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A collection of 7 matching copper appliques, each one depicting a standing lord who holds a kero in both hands before his chest, as if either presenting to the onlooker or about to sip its contents. All are elaborately adorned with tumi-shaped headdresses, necklaces, and tunics with zigzag trim along the hemlines. The forms were skillfully cut from hammered copper sheets, and meticulously detailed with these incised details and pierced with tiny slits - one at the center of the headdresses and two on the platforms below the feet - which make it possible to attach these appliques to an impressive object such as a Lord King's throne. Size of each (all are nearly identical): 2.25" L x 1" W (5.7 cm x 2.5 cm); 8.375" H (21.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, before 2010; ex-Eugene Lions collection, Geneve, Switzerland, collected 1960-2000
