Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima culture, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. A collection of 7 clam shell bracelets, each carved with an openwork band and protruding face. The face is stylized, perhaps zoomorphic, with two knobs like ears or a headdress on the top, shallow brow lines, slightly protruding nose, and drilled eyes. The bracelets vary in size; perhaps to be worn on the wrist or upper arm. Glycymeris gigantea is only found along the Pacific coast of Baja and Mexico. Size of smallest: 2.675" L x 0.5" W (6.8 cm x 1.3 cm); largest: 3.675" L x 0.7" W (9.3 cm x 1.8 cm)
